South West Institute of Tafe are offering three workshops from 10am July 31st –August 3rd 12pm.

Workshop 1
Joy Smith - Woven Tapestry Brooches
This is a 20 hour class during which time the students would design, make, & finish off (ready to wear) a small series of woven brooches. Issues of size, design, materials, finishing professionally &wearability/longevity will be discussed within the class. I will show brooches of different designs & styles made with a variety of materials that can show the possibilities that can be achieved.
Students are encouraged to bring own ideas (ie: favourite yarns, simple
designs) to adapt/translate into personalised brooches.
Seine twine & a variety of materials to weave & complete brooches will be provided. Students to provide own loom, bobbins, favourite yarns & sketchbook/drawing materials.
Pre-requisites: Basic Tapestry weaving skills.
Cost: $300 approximately
Workshop 2
Michelle Shearer ‘Basic Photoshop – A focus on Tapestry Design’
In this 20-hour class students will be introduced to basic Photoshop techniques with a view to creating their own designs for tapestry and needlework projects. Learn how to combine elements from different photographic sources. Then convert your photographic images into workable patterns for tapestry and other projects.
Pre-requisites: Basic computer skills – no experience of Photoshop necessary
Cost: $300 approximately
Workshop 3
Jeanie Gleeson ‘ Printmaking’
This 20 hour workshop gives you an introduction to a variety of printmaking techniques with an experienced printmaker. You will explore mono-printing, relief printing and collagraphic printing.
Cost: Approximately $346
Finding Us
We are located in Building C, Deakin University, Warrnambool Campus. Buses run hourly to Deakin if you don’t have a car. If you have a car you will need to get a parking permit and instructions on where to park from us. If you have any questions please contact Linda Johnstone 03 55633610.
